Vortex shedding from a circular cylinder at high reynolds number

Özet

The main interest of this paper is the evaluation of the several well-known turbulence models at high Reynolds number flow to predict the basic character of the vortex shedding from two-dimensional circular cylinder in the subcritical flow regime. Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (U-RANS) solutions with finite volume discretization approach and with pressure-correction based technique are obtained with the aid of the commercial CFD code Fluent. Particular attention is paid to some important hydrodynamical coefficients such as the mean drag coefficient (CD), root-mean-square lift coefficient (r.m.s. CL) and Strouhal number (St). The results are compared with the available experimental and computational data in the literature. The effects of the turbulence on the characteristics of the downstream flow and on the hydrodynamical coefficients are discussed.
