Özet

This paper investigates the developments related to implementation and utilisation of information systems for maintaining and enhancing competitive advantages in a developing environment. The decisions and applications of the organisations associated with these issues are examined regarding to the underlying technology of the system, users of the system, and timing. The results of the survey encompassing 300 largest manufacturing and 300 service companies are discussed in regard to the characteristics of the firms, expressed as the sector and firm size, represented by number of employees and annual sales. The results of the survey reveal that the developments related to implementation and utilisation of information systems in this environment are not dependent on the sector and the firm size if firm size is represented by number of employees. On the other hand, the most important technology, the primary users of the system, and the responses of the competitors to system utilisation are dependent on annual sales if the firm size is represented by annual sales.
