The effects of lubricant amount on sewing thread performance properties

In this study, the experiments were designed to cover all the sewing thread parameters that are effective in the optimization of performance properties. Four types of sewing threads, air-jet PET, PET-ring spun, core-spun (poly/poly) and cotton ring spun threads having the same final count were used. Different amounts of lubricant were applied to these sewing threads and the performance and frictional properties of these sewing threads were measured. Yarn count, twist, tenacity, breaking extension, lubricant absorption rates, frictional forces and friction coefficient values and electrostatic charging values of threads were measured. In addition, an evaluation was made in order to determine the effect of lubrication level on yarn elongation, frictional forces, friction coefficient, friction waveness and electrostatic charging. As a result of this research, it is found that optimum lubricant rates for air-jet sewing threads are between 1,0-1,9 (4%-7%). Among the four types of sewing threads, air-jet sewing thread was found the highest sewing performance although investment costs are low.
