Özet

An overview of chenille yarn production and applications is summarised, and a study undertaken on abrasion resistance and seam slippage of chenille upholstery fabrics. The chenille yarn effect is explained and the background to development of production machinery. Correct choice of core and pile components is vital for high quality, and information is provided on structure and processing. The main problems are yarn slippage and pile loss. 23 different chenille upholstery woven fabrics were obtained. The Martindale Wear and Abrasion Tester Model determined abrasion properties (BS 5690) and ICI's Pilling Tester (BS 5811). The results were given for chenille made of acrylic, viscose and cotton. Abrasion resistance is discussed and contributory factors. Fabric construction and design affect seam slippage, and chenille yarn material and chenille yarn twist affects abrasion resistance, as does pile length. Fibre thickness is an important factor requiring further study.
