Synthesis of alumina nanoparticles by heat treatment of thermal decomposed aluminium sulfate aerosol droplets

Özet

Alumina particles were fabricated by thermal decomposition of aluminium sulfate aerosols obtained in ultrasonic atomizer at 800°C in air atmosphere, and then by heat treatment at 600 and 800°C. Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) was performed to determine the chemical composition of prepared structures. The EDS analyses indicate that particles produced by thermal decomposition of aluminium sulfate aerosols have sulfur in their structures and it was removed by heat treatment. Also, size, shape, and surface morphology of samples were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Images revealed that alumina nanoparticles re-nucleated on the submicron particles by removing of sulphur in the structure, and thus agglomerated 30 - 50 nm sized nanoparticles were obtained in spherical morphology.
