Özet
Sieving is a separation process that plays a critical role in food and agricultural industries to preserve and increase the quality of products. It is a fundamental separation method that allows the discrimination of various particles based on their sizes. Gravitational, centrifugal, vibratory, and rotary sieving are commonly preferred methods. Sifters are systems or equipment that contain sieves in different sizes. The plan sifters and air-jet sifters have recently been used in industrial applications. Entoleters, as impact-type milling machines, also separate the grains. They are used to remove insects from products and prepare them safely for human consumption. This chapter provides insights into the principles of each technique and machine, emphasizing their potential to maintain food quality and safety. It focuses on advantages, specific uses, and effects on functional and physicochemical properties of products.
