Özet

This paper presents a sensitivity analysis of the hydrodynamic coefficients in the mathematical model used to predict ship manoeuvrability, specifically through turning circle manoeuvring tests. The study focuses on a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) and employs the mathematical model proposed by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). Although previous studies have explored sensitivity analysis of various manoeuvring models, such as the Abkowitz and MMG models, this work addresses the ABS model. The mathematical model is used to simulate the turning manoeuvre of the VLCC, and a detailed analysis is conducted to evaluate the influence of the hydrodynamic coefficients on ship manoeuvrability. The sensitivity analysis was carried out with ±10% deviations of each hydrodynamic coefficient in both starboard and port directions at 3/15 knots and the results were evaluated in terms of manoeuvre indices. The study identifies the hydrodynamic coefficients with the highest and lowest impact on the turning performance, providing insights into the simplification of manoeuvring models. The results offer guidance for preliminary ship design, helping designers prioritize key coefficients to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the ship manoeuvrability predictions.
