Özet
For reaching large inelastic deformations, without a substantial loss in strength, the potential plastic hinge regions of the structural members should be confined by transverse reinforcement adequately. In this study, the experimental work carried on nearly full size specimens that are confined with transverse reinforcement of various diameter, spacing and volumetric ratio, and a trilinear stress-strain model that is proposed based on observed behaviour and obtained experimental data are explained. Experimental results, which indicate that spacing is a very important factor on the behaviour as well as the volumetric ratio, are given with a special emphasis on confined concrete compressive strength, corresponding strain, strain ductility, energy dissipation capacity and ultimate deformation. The results obtained by the proposed model, which includes the effect of buckling of longitudinal bars, are in good agreement with the experimental data.
