Özet

B4C/TiB2 ceramic composites containing 5-10-15 vol % TiB2 were prepared via reactive hot pressing of B4C, TiO2 and C powder mixture. Reactive hot pressing was carried out at 2000°C and 2100°C applying 50 MPa pressure under argon atmosphere for 1 hour. The effect of TiB2 amount of composite and sintering temperature on sintering behaviour and some mechanical properties of reactive hot pressed composites were investigated. Hot pressing at 2000°C for 1 h at 50 MPa under an argon gas atmosphere resulted in B4C-5 vol.% TiB2 composite having a bulk density of 99.6 % of the x-ray density. A B4C-5 vol.% TiB2 composite with the highest strength of 450 MPa could be obtained by hot pressing at 2000°C for 1 hour applying 50 MPa pressure under argon atmosphere. The fracture toughness of composite is found as 4.2 MPa. m1/2.
