Özet

Cordierite ceramics were produced by using local magnesium sources. Mixtures were sintered at different temperatures to examine formation of cordierite. α-cordierite was formed as a major phase over 1150°C. High bulk density and nearly zero apparent porosity were achieved at 1200°C by using Mg-rich local clay as a magnesium source. Thermal expansion coefficient of this sample was 2.63×10-6/K, in the temperature range 50-800°C. Produced cordierite body is believed to have a potential in refractory applications where high density and thermal shock resistance are required.
