Özet

Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) retrofitting through external confinement is a promising technique for enhancing the seismic behaviour of substandard columns, which are generally characterized with low concrete quality, insufficient transverse reinforcement and improper reinforcement detailing. Though several experimental studies are available in the literature for FRP confinement of concrete members, large-scale tests are still needed for providing benchmark data for analytical investigations. In this study, initially, test results of three full-scale reinforced concrete columns with a cross-sectional aspect ratio of two (300 mm × 600 mm) are briefly summarized. These full-scale cantilever columns are tested under constant axial load and reversed cyclic lateral loads and are representative of existing sub-standard columns. One column is tested as the reference specimen while the remaining two are tested after retrofitting with one and two plies of external FRP confinement at the potential plastic hinging zones. In the next step, column force-displacement curves are predicted by using different FRP confinement models available in literature and compared with the test results.
