Özet

This study aims to nitride AISI304L, 316L, 316Ti austenitic stainless steels in a fluidized bed by passing "60% ammonia + 40% nitrogen" gas mixtures through aluminum oxide particles at 420°C. Nitriding for 4h developed about 5 um thick diffusion layer on the surface of all samples without chromium nitride precipitation. Glow discharge optical spectrometry studies revealed carbon accumulation beyond the nitrogen rich layer. The hardness of the outer most layer of nitrided samples were measured more than 1500 HV, which accompanied by a significant increase in wear resistance (more than 5 times with respect to the as-received state) without sacrificing the corrosion resistance. Among the examined stainless steels excellent combination of corrosion and wear resistances was obtained from 316Ti austenitic stainless steel.
