Özet
Western Black Sea basin attracted attention to its tectonic activity by the earthquake occured on October 15, 2016 (Ml=5.0). Focal mechanism of this earthquake, revealed another clue for the active thrusting in the basin with a very similar solution of Bartin Earthquake of September 3, 1968 (MS=6.6). In this study, a map of submarine faults likely to be active and have a potential to generate earthquakes which may cause serious damages to residential and industrial facilities of the surrounding region was produced. The structures formed by the activities of these faults clarified by the geological sections constructed by using marine seismic reflection data and the onland-offshore well data. New evidences were given for the presence of the compressional regime affecting the basin by using the outcomes of seismic reflection studies and the continuation of the thrust related geological features from land to offshore was revealed. From all the acquirements, it's possible to say that the Black Sea is being compressed in N-S direction. After observing the earthquake occured at the deepest part of the basin on October 15, 2016, the point of view for the absence of thrust related active faults in the Western Black Sea has to be revised.
