N2 - Simulation is an important part of the design and optimisation of DC rail traction power systems. With the help of simulation, it is possible to determine possible problems, reduce the design costs and optimise for several design criteria such as power consumption, passenger flow, and passenger comfort. This paper presents a new simulation tool that can be used for these purposes while discussing several problems that must be tackled in writing a rail traction power simulator.
