Investigating the Impact of Cross-Sectional Area Variations of High Voltage Section on Leakage Reactance

Özet

Dry-type transformers have recently been in the spotlight as the main transmission source used in the renewable energy industry. The main issue in the use of dry-type transformers is the appropriate evaluation of the leakage reactance. This study delves into the numerical analysis for the evaluation of leakage reactance in transformers featuring three different sections within the high-voltage winding (primary winding) and a single section in the low-voltage winding (secondary winding). The primary objective of this research is to comprehensively assess the impact of varying cross-sectional areas across the different sections of the primary winding, taking the total cross-sectional area as the same and aiming to optimize the transformer's leakage reactance. The investigation systematically explores diverse cross-sectional areas within each section of the high-voltage winding to understand their individual and collective effects on leakage reactance. According to the results, the leakage reactance differs significantly in each case. According to this study, the best results for leakage reactance are obtained when the volume of the middle section (HV2) is equal to the sum of the other two high-voltage sections (HV1 and HV3).
