Integrating a Genetic Algorithm-Based calibration module into EPANET 3.0 for enhanced hydraulic modeling

Araştırma çıktısı: Dergi yayınıMakaleHakem

Özet

EPANET is a widely utilized open-source software application that is designed for hydraulic and water quality modeling of water distribution networks, yet the accuracy and correctness of its modeling performance are inherently dependent upon proper calibration. This research presents the development and implementation of a novel calibration module based on the Genetic Algorithm (GA) optimization technique within the modular framework of EPANET 3.0. Through this module, discrepancies between field measurements and simulated outputs can be reduced to negligible levels by adjusting hydraulic model parameters. The proposed software module is tested and verified on a water distribution network. The results demonstrate exceptional performance with correlation coefficients exceeding 0.90 between observed data and hydraulic model outputs. This integration represents a substantial novelty in hydraulic model calibration literature and an advancement in the modeling and analysis capabilities of hydraulic models for water distribution systems. This progress would facilitate the implementation of improved water distribution network management strategies and efficiency-oriented procedures. The module’s integration into the EPANET platform extends its utility for both research applications and practical implementation in water utility operations.
