Özet

A WIG craft is more efficient when compared to an airplane. The underlying reason of this phenomenon is known for more than half a century now: the existence of a ground beneath the craft enhances the lift. The ground pushes the body away. On the other hand, experienced captains know for sure that it is dangerous to draw very close to land due to the grounding risk in shallow waters. The ground proximity in this case works the other way around: it pulls the body to itself. These two distinct examples reveal the perplexing behavior of ground vicinity. This study distinguishes these two opposite behaviors of ground proximity and explains physically which happens when.
