Özet

This research focuses on evaluating the wastewater data collected subsequent to the establishment of a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Batman province, situated in the Southeastern Anatolia region of Turkey. The analysis involves examining the inflow data of the facility over the period from 2011 to 2022, specifically considering the impact of rainy and dry weather conditions. The investigation aims to identify the typical components of wastewater by calculating pollutant concentrations and loading rates. Moreover, the study determines the maximum and minimum Peak Factors (PF) associated with the Batman WWTP. Additionally, leakage values pertaining to the Batman WWTP collection system are determined. As a result, it has been shown that pollutant loads increase during the summer months, but there is no significant difference in average values. The probability of not exceeding the PFs for the Batman WWTP was calculated in percentages, and the highest values were found to be 1.30, 1.34, and 1.37 for 70%, 80%, and 90% respectively in the year 2021, while the lowest values were calculated as 1.04, 1.06, and 1.07 for 70%, 80%, and 90% respectively in the year 2020. The PFs for the Batman WWTP ranged from 1.10 to 1.82 for daily periods, 1.09 to 1.49 for dry periods, and 1.14 to 1.62 for rainy periods between 2011 and 2022. Finally, a new empirical equation has been proposed for the estimation of the maximum dry PF for Batman WWTP (PFmak, dry = 702.16Qave,day-0.585 , R2=0.726), and it is recommended to take the leakage amount of the collection system of the facility as 44% of the wastewater flow rate. The outcomes of this research offer valuable insights into wastewater characteristics and the performance of the WWTP in Batman province. These findings can contribute to the enhancement of wastewater management strategies, the comprehension of pollutant loads, and the optimization of design and operations for wastewater treatment facilities in the region.
