Özet

This study summarizes some of the results of a research project supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). Characteristics of cutting by chain saw machines are experimentally investigated by applying laboratory full-scale linear cutting tests on block samples of natural stones, in addition to field studies. Block samples are cut by using chisel cutting tools at different cutting conditions. Some of the results of experimental studies, especially relieved cutting tests with different sideways angles of tools and cutting patterns for simulating cutting action of chain saw machines, and some of the in-situ investigations are summarized. The results indicate that cutting characteristics of chain saw machines can be successfully simulated by full-scale linear cutting experiments, thus leading deterministic modeling for performance prediction and optimization.
