Özet
One of the recent trends in induction machines is the use of magnetic wedges to improve performance. In this study, a 120-kW traction motor used in light rail vehicles (LRVs) is first experimentally tested under no-load and S1 duty conditions. Based on the measured data, a finite element analysis (FEA) model of the motor is developed and validated against the test results. The primary objective of the paper is then to introduce magnetic wedges into the validated model and investigate their effects on motor performance. Both nonmagnetic and magnetic wedge models are analyzed, and their motor performance, air-gap magnetic flux density, and harmonic content are compared to the impact of magnetic wedges on the machine's operation.
