Özet

Entrepreneurship has a positive impact on a country's economic growth; therefore, an understanding of the characteristics that distinguish entrepreneurs from the rest of the population is essential to promote entrepreneurship among economies through policies and education. This study aims at determining the entrepreneurial profile of Industrial Engineering students in Turkey. The entrepreneurial trait model is adopted while keeping this aim in mind. In the model, six characteristics have been associated with entrepreneurial motivation: locus of control, need for achievement, self-esteem, risk taking, tolerance of ambiguity, and innovativeness. Using this model, a comparative analysis for two different student groups, consisting of students who are not willing to start a business and students who are willing to start an entrepreneurial career, was conducted. Results from the analysis indicated that there is a significant difference between both groups with regard to risk-taking propensity and innovativeness scores.
