Özet

This book chapter presents a framework for the historical development of offshore energy systems, their technological classification, the use of various energy sources, and future projections. Offshore renewable energy sources discussed include offshore wind, wave energy, tidal and ocean current energy, offshore solar photovoltaic systems, ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC), and salinity-gradient power generation. Working principles and current status of selected technologies are evaluated, their classifications are made, and their potential contributions to energy supply are analyzed. These systems are categorized based on their energy source and conversion mechanism, and their maturity levels vary significantly. For example, while offshore wind has reached commercial viability, wave energy and salinity-gradient systems remain in experimental or pilot stages. The chapter employs energy and exergy analysis methods to evaluate the performance of the different offshore energy systems in terms of power output and thermodynamic efficiency. Selected case studies demonstrate the capacity, efficiency, and performance analysis methods of these technologies; these examples illustrate their applicability and present the difficulties encountered in engineering problems. Finally, future directions for offshore energy systems are discussed, including advanced power generation mechanisms, integration with energy storage solutions, and hybrid renewable configurations.
