Özet

This paper studies the effects of education, household size, estate size, estate ownership, fallowing, contractual farming, sale period, processing, consulting, marketing, membership to occupational associations and geographical regions on farmers' income. Especially paper focuses on the contribution of formal education and seeking expert opinion on technical matters to farmers' income and productivity level. For the purpose, a sample of 676 farmers was surveyed from 23 cities and 7 geographic regions in Turkey. Empirical analyses reveal positive effects of formal education on farmers' income levels. As significant as formal education; practical education in the form of utilizing expert consulting and training services also increase the productivity and income of farmers. Controlling other variables farmers who utilize expert technical support on decisions about fertilizer choice and on other technical issues earn significantly more than who do not.
