This chapter examines combined energy conversion systems, focusing on their thermodynamic principles, design, and applications. These systems integrate two or more subsystems to enhance energy recovery and efficiency, particularly for power generation. Various combined cycles, such as Brayton-Rankine, Brayton-Kalina, and Rankine-ORC systems, are categorized and discussed in detail, supported by theoretical analyses and case studies. The examples illustrate the systems' capacity to enhance performance under varying operating conditions. Comprehensive energy and exergy analyses are conducted to evaluate efficiencies, identify losses, and offer comparative insights. Additionally, case studies are presented to further analyze and assess the performance of combined energy conversion systems. Emerging trends and future prospects in combined energy conversion technologies are also explored to highlight their potential for energy solutions.
