Özet
Development of effective biosensing systems based on membrane proteins or cell- cell or cell-drug interactions requires biointerfaces with similar functionalities present within the cell. Instead of developing artificial materials, direct mimics of cell membrane could provide the physiological environment needed for specific analysis. Biomimetic lipid bilayers can be used in many practical applications, ranging from the construction of drug screening platforms to pathogen and cancer cell detection systems. Manufacturing these platforms as disposable, robust and handheld point-of-care (POC) diagnostics devices will facilitate to monitor and manage the diseases. In this chapter, brief information about biomimetic membranes is presented and their implementation to POC systems for potential medical applications is introduced.
