Özet

A new generation earthquake-resistant structural design method under intensive research is the energy-based design method, which requires to know the energy dissipation behavior of structural members to accomplish effective designs once energy demands are known. Nonlinear behavior of RC shear walls, commonly used in seismic regions, can be investigated in terms of hysteretic energy dissipation capacity (EDC) from the energy point of view. Relevant research studies have been limited, whereas current seismic codes do not include the energy-based design. In this study, a comprehensive wall test database is assembled and used to assess the influence of wall design parameters (e.g. geometry, reinforcement) on EDC. Empirical equations are developed to estimate the EDC based on High Dimensional Model Representation (HDMR), a successful method that can generate analytical functions. The proposed predictive model stands out with its simultaneously accurate (R2 = 0.93, estimated/actual ratio = 0.99) and transparent structure. From the design point of view, accurate prediction of the EDC would be valuable in that different detailing alternatives in shear wall design can be compared based on their dissipated energy. From the damage point of view, the findings of this study will be indicators of structural damage and provide information regarding energy-based damage assessment of existing buildings.
