Özet
A combination of permanent magnets and superconductors was used to construct a thrust-bearing system for an energy storage flywheel. The stability of the overall system was tested over a range of levitation heights at rotation speeds of up to around 12 Hz. A sharp resonance was found to occur at a low speed indicating very low damping. Results showed that the losses comprised of eddy current losses and were not purely hysteric. A modeling system to predict the forces developed in the bearings in both axial and radial directions was also developed.
