A QUALITATIVE BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS ON DATA MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES AND ROADMAPS AS A CRITICAL TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT TOPIC IN DIGITALIZATION

Data has become one of the critical organizational assets, raising the need for effective data management approaches as a backbone of digital transformation. Data management gained importance as a strategic technology management competency that ensures the quality, accuracy, availability, compatibility, and security of the data assets. The strategies and roadmaps for data management define the technology adoption success of data-driven technologies. In this context, it is timely to revisit the literature on data management strategies and better understand the research trends that may shed light on the evolution and developments in various dimensions of this hot topic. This paper explores the scientific publications on this topic through a literature review by providing insights into the theoretical base and research trends of data management strategies and roadmaps. We adopted a qualitative approach through scoping and bibliometric analysis. One hundred eight papers were extracted from the Scopus database and processed for bibliometric analysis. For bibliometric analysis, we used “Bibliometrix” in R. Despite the vast literature in technical contexts of the “data” (such as data analytics, data security, big data, and data acquisition), data management strategy has remained a relatively less-visited topic. The research trends on data management strategies and roadmaps reveal that managerial and governance-related aspects of data management have rising importance.
