Özet

This study aims to model the compression behavior of 11 m thick soft clay layer which exists at the north coast of Turkey in Samsun-Carsamba delta. Conventional and long-term consolidation tests were performed on undisturbed samples taken from tests pits and borings. In each long-term consolidation test at two or three stress levels, creep tests were conducted. In-situ settlements under the project loads were predicted and a preloading height was designated. To determine the consolidation coefficient in the site boundary conditions, 25 m x 45 m area was preloaded and settlement behavior of the clay layer was observed during seven months. Laboratory and in-situ test results were compared and according to these findings the final height of the preloading was increased taking into account the secondary compression settlements during the lifespan of the airport.
