Abstract
Nowadays data centers become more and more important. Increased number of data centers are built due to the emerging and expanding digital currency, IoT and AI applications. However, the share of data centers in the total world carbon footprint is skyrocketed due to demanded data volume. Energy consumption and material usage make the data centers prominent figures of CO2 emission sources. In this study, a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and carbon footprint calculation method are implemented for rack-type PDUs (Power Distribution Unit) used in data centers. An excessive number of rack-type PDU systems used in data centers, even their share of carbon footprint is lesser in data center industry. The study also includes solutions and a road map for net zero carbon or de-carbonisation of PDUs.
