Abstract

In the present study, the single- and duplex surface treatments were applied to a prehardened steel. Deposition of CrN coating via PVD process on the as-received and nitrided surfaces were referred as single- and duplex surface treatments, respectively. In the scope of the study characteristics of the single- and duplex-treated steels were compared with respect to the results of microhardness, adhesion and wear tests. The duplex treatment leads to a remarkable increase in the surface hardness and wear resistance when compared to those of the single-treated steels.
