Abstract

The classical trend approaches are implemented frequently in hydrological and meteorological measurements. Nowadays, Şen’s innovative trend analysis (ITA) test provides the ability to illustrate inspection and determination of trend status via two-dimensional graph. The main purpose of this study is to attempt determination and visualization of trend stabilities by means of three dimension (3D) graphical representation based on ITA approach. The presented 3D modelling reveals additional trend information than classical Şen-ITA test. The applications are represented using the data from Black Sea, Mediterranean, and continental climate regions in Turkey. The proposed 3D-ITA method shows whether there is stability for decreasing, increasing, and trendless conditions in addition to the information provided by the classical 2D-ITA approach. This paper comprises 54 year data in Edirne, Kocaeli, Çanakkale, and Zonguldak rainfall stations located in Turkey’s North–West part.
