Abstract
The characteristics of sewing threads are considered. Sewing threads, like other yarns, can be made from continuous filaments extruded from a pinneret or from staple fibres. The different types used are described: spun; corespun; continuous filament; multifilament single ply; textured; locked filament polyester; and monofilament. Sewability and selection criteria are also defined.
