Abstract
This article provides an explanation of the nature of friction, the necessity of lubricating sewing thread and the disadvantages of excessive lubrication. Friction is necessary in textile production processes, but if excessive, can cause problems. Lubrication is needed to provide a regular, low level of friction and to provide protection from heat generated by needles.
