Abstract

With the integration of information technology and state-of-the-art sizing techniques (eg 3D body scanning) mass customisation offers new openings to the knitting industry using the idea of seam-free production. Computer-based production options such as CAD and CAM features allow both customers and manufacturers to respond to each other's expectations in the optimum way. CAD/CAM systems in the manufacturing line also allow companies to integrate electronic data interchange (EDI) systems. The combination of digital knitting technology, EDI, CAD/CAM and body scanning is seen as the foundation for future developments.
