Abstract

With industrialization and modernization, the rapidly increasing population and accordingly increasing needs and high consumption cause the rapid decrease in natural resources. Although the rapid consumption of non-renewable natural resources is a major environmental problem, the high amount of waste generated as a result of this consumption poses another major environmental threat. One of the most important ways to reduce the amount of waste, which is constantly increasing, is to take an active role in the recycling cycle of these materials. In this study, the use of recycled steel fibers (RSF) obtained by recycling from end-of-life vehicle tires in concrete was investigated. For this purpose, 0.40, 0.50 and 0.60 water/cement (w/c) ratios were determined and mechanical properties were compared with reference (non-fiber) concretes by using 45 kg/m3 waste steel fiber for each ratio. As a result of the study, it has been observed that waste steel fibers can be used in concrete and contribute to the mechanical properties.
