Abstract
The city of Erzincan located on the North Anatolian Fault zone experienced another major earthquake on March 13, 1992. The effects of the earthquake was devastating. To achieve sufficient safety against possible earthquakes in cities like Erzincan, it is essential to take into account the characteristics of source mechanism, the effects of local geological and soil conditions in establishing the design criterias and code requirements. In other words detailed microzonation studies should be carried out. In addition more reliable and effective control mechanisms are needed over design and construction stages in order to assure the implementation of the requirements for earthquake resistant buildings. -from Authors
