Abstract

In the present review article, we summarize current investigations and contributions on a wide range applications of asphaltenes. Asphaltenes have been studied extensively for their potential novel applications. Recently, there has been increasing interest in revealing the potential of asphaltenes in different areas, such as electronics, polymer composites, supercapacitors, and gas-adsorbing matrixes. Upon giving describing asphaltenes’ structural characteristics, we focus on the applications of asphaltenes by correlating their chemical and electronic structure to their applications. After summarizing lessons learned about asphaltenes, we conclude the review by proposing new areas to apply asphaltenes and how to improve the current applications of asphaltenes.
