Abstract
Road lighting is expected to contribute to the smooth continuity of economic activities and social life by sustaining the usability of roads and open areas at night by providing safe and comfortable visibility. Along with the increasing population and the growing economy, the electric power demand has been rapidly increasing. This rising energy consumption has raised the significance of energy efficiency in our country, which is not self-sufficient in terms of energy resources.order to improve the energy efficiency of indoor and outdoor lighting, light sources with higher efficiencies are preferred. With their high efficiency, light emitting diodes (LED) emerge as a viable alternative that must be considered for general and road lighting solutions with respect to energy conservation. In this study, economic and technical comparisons have been conducted between classic light sources used in road lighting and an LED road lighting fixture. An assessment of current and future usability of LEDs in road lighting has been carried out by analysing the obtained results.
