Abstract

Undoped and Pr-doped ZnSe nanoparticles were prepared using a simple hydrothermal method. The structure and morphology of nanoparticles were investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, photoelectron spectroscopy, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis. The photocatalytic activity of undoped and Pr-doped ZnSe nanoparticles under visible light was evaluated in degradation of acid yellow 36, methylene blue, basic yellow 13, and malachite green. Results indicated that the doping of Pr dopant into ZnSe nanoparticles significantly enhanced the photocatalytic activity. The photocatalytic decolorization efficiency of undoped ZnSe and Pr0.03Zn0.97Se nanocatalysts was 26 and 68 % after 180 min of treatment, respectively, for removing acid yellow 36.
