N2 - This paper describes the evaluation of a software system for collaborative coding and analysis of video data in the context of collaborative design studies. In order to understand the impact of virtual environments on collaborative design process, research into how designers work collaboratively using both traditional and digital media was being undertaken. We have recorded activities of architect pairs collaborating face-to-face and remotely and employed content analysis of video protocols to study their design behaviour. A team of analysts coded and analysed the collected data. This poses problems as to how to manage the collaborative coding and analyse those data effectively. Previous work reported the reasons for selecting the software application, INTERACT, the study of its use and suitability in the pilot studies of the intended research. This paper presents the completed case studies and the outcomes from the same project. We concluded that INTERACT provided significant efficiency gains for the collaborative coding and analysis of the video data. [Zafer Bilda, Figen L. Gul, Ning Gu, Mary Lou Maher]
