Abstract

Studies on innovative system designs continue in the literature to meet the capacity demands of the next-generation communication systems. In this context, spatial modulation (SM) and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, which enhance capacity by increasing spectral efficiency, have attracted significant interest. Although numerous analytical studies on these topics are available in the literature, limited works can be found on the practical implementation of SM MIMO systems. In this paper, practical implementations of 2 × 1, 2 × 2, 4 × 1, and 4 × 2 SM systems are conducted using software-defined radios on the GNU Radio platform, and bit error rate curves obtained from the measurements are presented.
