Abstract

In this paper, skewing effect is analyzed in permanent magnet Brushless Direct Current motor (BLDC). Skewing is a common used method especially for reducing cogging torque. Test motor is an interior type BLDC motor with 24 slots and 4 poles. In this work, Test BLDC motor is analyzed for different skewing angles (2.5, 5,...,15 degrees) at stator to find an optimum skew angle for reducing the cogging torque. Fast Fourier Transform of the normal component of the air gap flux density is obtained for the skewed and nonskewed motors to observe the skewing effect on the harmonic components.
