Abstract

This very technical article on polyester yarns focuses on their shrinkage properties under a variety of conditions. Three tables and four figures illustrate the results obtained under tests of a polyester textured filament yarn. Three variables were used in the tests; texturing speed, temperature and draw ratio. The tables show numerical results while the figures are all graphs. Figure 1 shows boiling shrinkage as a percentage against texturing speed. The calculations used in the determination of boiling shrinkage, diffraction measurements, and birefringence are included in the text. The general conclusion is that shrinkage behaviour (of polyester yarn) increases with texturing speed and decreases with higher temperature and higher draw weights.
