Sewing thread properties and criteria of choice

Abstract

This technical review provides information to aid the selection of a sewing thread for specific clothing manufacturing processes. The subjects covered are thread types, including the properties of a range of staple and continuous filament yarns, the use of sewing threads, requirements for different applications and the causes of sewing performance problems. The factors to be considered in the selection of a sewing thread according to fabric characteristics are classified and discussed.
