Abstract
In this study, the formation of aluminum nitride via carbothermal reduction and nitridation by using Seydişehir Al(OH)3 as the raw material has been investigated. Experiments have been performed in a horizontal tube furnace. Initially, Al(OH)3 with carbon black has been calcined to Al2O3 in an argon atmosphere at 600°C, and then carbothermal reduction and nitridation have been performed in nitrogen atmosphere. The effect of temperature (1400 -1600 °C), time (0240 min) and stoichiometric ratio of carbon black and aluminum hydroxide (2 and 2.83) have been selected as experimental parameters. The phase analyses and the microstructural observation of the products have been investigated by X-ray diffractometry and electron microscopy technique (SEM), respectively.
