Abstract
The friction and wear behaviours of plasma-sprayed ceramic coatings based on Al2O3, MgZrO3 and WC-Co were investigated under dry sliding conditions. The structure, thickness, metallographic properties and microhardness of coatings have been characterized using X-Ray Diffraction, optical microscopy and Vickers Microhardness Tester. Porosity and surface roughness of coatings have been also measured. Friction and wear properties were carried out on a pin-on-disc tribo test machine. After tests, worn surfaces were analysed by SEM. It was evaluated relations between wear parameters and coating properties. Coeffients of friction were less than the expected values because of very low surface roughness of coatings. Wear parameters such as wear depth, wear volume and wear rate were found not to be related with the mechanical properties of coatings.
