Abstract

Hydroxylapatite composites with lanthanum phosphate were prepared with pressureless air sintering for hours at different temperatures between 500°C and 1300°C. The interaction between the phases was monitored with XRD analysis. At sintering temperatures higher than 700°C, hydroxylapatite and lanthanum phosphate phase reacted and formed Ca 8 La 2 (PO 4) 6O 2 as byproduct. In the mean time, hydroxylapatite decomposed and formed tricalcium phosphate.
