Abstract
Nowadays most of design changes in electrical machines are made by applying many different design algorithms to reach the best operating point. In this paper particle swarm optimization (PSO) is used for optimization of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). Finite element method (FEM) is preferred for the numerical solution to validate the optimization results. The numerical results of the reference motor and optimized motor are compared in terms of the efficiency and other performance indicators. The improvements are achieved for the optimized motor with the same motor requirements.
