Abstract

Counting components on Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) representing the field plans of the industrial companies is a time-consuming process. Considering that the P&ID consists of uniform symbols and lines and are drawn on digital platforms, it is possible to count components automatically with respect to their types, sizes and specifications, benefiting image processing methods. Therefore, a system is developed including three components as symbol recognition, pipe recognition and pipe tag recognition. Then, the extracted symbol and pipe information are associated for grouping the components accordingly. At the end, the system can process various types of P&ID drawings within a decent duration and with a promising performance.
